Keeping Salem Awesome…another owl blog…really?
So why are we talking about the silly owl again? For a really good movement…a really good cause…a really good movie quote?!
“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.”
— Michael Corleone, Godfather 3.
This is one of my favorite quotes from one of my least favorite movies and was exactly what was going through my head when a local veterinarian called me in August asking if I would make 2 more “Owl Capone” shirts with slightly different artwork.
Don’t take the quote that was running through my head wrong…
Yes we had fun making the owl shirts and were quite happy when Salem became known nationally for it’s owl attacks in Bush Park rather than the shenanigans from our highest politician, but that was in the spring and now it was summer and she only wanted 2 shirts, 2 specially designed shirts…insert long pause into the telephone conversation and me then asking…”what is this for?”
She told me the shirts were to be part of the silent auction at Boo Bash, one of Willamette Humane Society’s annual fund raising events and was very excited about her project and asked if we could meet. If you have ever seen or been to our shop you know why I said yes. 3 of my shop assistants have 4 legs and keep us company and protected when we are printing.
Long story short, I said yes and modified her design for a shirt for the auction. The shirt was well received at Boo Bash and it encompassed a saying that has been volleyed back and forth in the community for the past few months…Keeping Salem Awesome…so how could we not make more?
So make more we did . More shirts available, with more money going to Willamette Humane Society, more people spreading the message “Keeping Salem Awesome” and more exposure for our owls that may or may not be seen in the upcoming months.
So, kudo’s to Dr. Terri Jackson for not just keeping, but for making Salem Awesome…
Awesome because, she took her vision and made it a reality.
Awesome because her idea makes Salem a better place to live for both 2 legged and 4 legged residents.
Awesome because we can share her vision and also make a difference by donating $5.00 of each sale to the Willamette Humane Society.
Awesome because “Keep Salem Awesome” is on the back of each shirt which is great advertising for our communities message.
Portland can keep weird, we like awesome.
